The Petroleum Regulatory Agency recently conducted an induction programme for its Regional Managers and District Monitoring Officers at the British Council Headquarters. The aim was to empower them to effectively carry out their functions in regulating the petroleum sector.
The training provided participants with insights into the agency's operations and mandates, followed by a field visit to the Kissy Oil Terminal and several gas stations across Freetown.
During his address, Executive Chairman Brima Baluwa Koroma emphasized the importance of professionalism and vigilance in fulfilling the agency's mandate. He highlighted the significance of the petroleum sector to the nation's economy and urged participants to uphold standards and procedures at all times.
Chairman Baluwa Koroma also stressed the sector's challenges, including ambiguity and volatility, compounded by limited government participation along the value chain. He urged regional managers and staff to ensure the availability of petroleum products in their respective districts through regular monitoring, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.
Head of Operation & Monitoring, Allen L. Murana, led the team on a comprehensive assessment of the Kissy oil terminal, providing explanations of various facilities and processes involved in handling petroleum products. The field exercise aimed to equip monitors with firsthand knowledge of operational processes and risks, preparing them to address challenges effectively.
Southern Region Manager, Alie Mambu, expressed gratitude for the opportunity provided by the PRA to enhance their capacities. He noted that the training had filled operational gaps and empowered them to deliver effective service. Mambu pledged to disseminate the knowledge gained to district officers for improved service delivery nationwide.
